The Report
THE LONDON EVENING STANDARD- "Hostage takers heed warning":
The kidnappers of the French Ambassador to Great Britain has issued a warning that they have directed to be published in this periodical with no changes made to it.
The time is running out for the french ambassador. Two days remain or the fate of the ambassador will be left to those that neglect our demands.
Presiding authorities have determined that the kidnappers are holding the ambassador hostage within London city limits. So far no immediate action has been decided in the event that the investigators can pinpoint the hostage takers whereabouts.
With the time limit ending to a close within the next 48 hours, police are limited to their options. In dire situations such as this, only one question needs to be answered. Is one man's life worth ten million dollars? It's up to London's finest to decide the answer to that.
Washington Daily Times- "Woman Killed in Philipines: American Soldier Held in
Custody
":
Li Camat, 21, was found dead yeasterday in an alley near
Manilla, Philipines. According to witnessess, three gun
shots were heard and shortly thereafter, American soldier,
PFC Brent McCauley, was found over the body. As the local
authorities converged on the suspect, McCauley, 26, fled the scene and found refuge in the American Embassy. He is
staying there for now, but sources claim that local
authorities want to prosecute. If McCauley is released
into Philipino custody, it would mark an incredible legal
precedent for the US Armed Forces.
Poor Timing
Such an incident could not have come at a worst time.
Manilla has seen a growing Muslim population in recent years and since September 11, 2001, there has been much tension between Muslims and the Army platoon stationed there. There have been reports of racist remarks and violence on the part of soldiers, but according to Ambassador Johannes Charles, "these reports are unsubstantiated. They are obviously an attampt to slander the reputation of American representatives." Just as a semblance of normality had arisen, Camat's death recharged the Muslim's hateful feelings toward the American presence.
Camat Had Political Ties
Furthermore, Li Camat was the daughter Maj. Zau Camat. Maj. Camat has openly shown his antipathy toward American
soldiers in Manilla. He also received criticism for his
insensitive comments during the incident of 9/11. The death of his daughter guarantees a conflict of some kind between Amaricans and his army. "I will not rest until my
daughter's killer is brought to justice." Since these words were uttered, many supporters have been protesting in front of the US Embassy demanding McCauley's blood.
McCauley and Deceased Were Seen Together
Reports claim that McCauley and Li Camat were seen together
on some occasions. It is not clear if the two were
romantically linked, but rumours have it that the two saw
each other on at least three occasions while McCauley was
off duty.
